Table of Contents

Many of our clients ask how they should begin entering race data into PLO. PLO is an incredible tool for a racer to monitor the training and race result. For a person who doesn't work with computers everyday even the simplest functions may seem complicated and our manual still leaves some users with questions. In this summary, I will provide some easy steps to get started using race module that I hope you will find helpful.
Run PLO program, from File menu choose Settings to preload information such as the weather conditions and wind direction that you will be using frequently. Below are some examples which you can use. Personally I recommend using the abbreviations for wind direction and weather condition I’ve provided below, however, it is your decision.

If you enter the new value in the entry field, click Add to save your entry.
Note: Each entry under Settings can easily be removed by selecting it and clicking Delete. After completing all your entries, close the Settings window by clicking the Close button.
From Racing Menu choose Race point to start adding all race point into the database. To add a new race point you have to enter the station name in Station name area, then enter the distance in miles and yards ( if you use the distance in miles ) and save it by clicking Save button. If you use the distance in kilometres enter the distance in kilometres and metres and Save it.
To delete a value, double clicking on it in the grid. You will be asked to confirm the deletion and you will not be allowed to delete a value that has already been used for any race that you have entered earlier.

From Racing Menu choose Race team to start adding new race team into the database. You will need to create a team, choosing the year ( racing season ) of the team along with the team name. The team name is likely to be something like "Old Birds" or "Young Birds".
Once the race team has been defined, you can add members to the team by double-clicking the birds on the right hand of the screen or pressing the ENTER key from keyboard. Recognize that in order to be on a team, the bird must be in the ACTIVE bird list ( Racing birds or Stock birds ).
Example: while creating a new Race team you add all birds that you have this season for the races. If you have 12 widowers in the Widowhood loft and 14 birds in the Natural loft that will be raced, your Race team is in total 26 birds. All 26 birds you save in a new race team in 2014. You don't create a new race team with each race, but you have one Race team including the birds participating in races this season.

|
To delete a bird from team, double-click the bird on the left hand of the screen or pressing the ENTER key from keyboard. You will be asked to confirm the deletion.
From Racing menu choose Races and you can now enter a new race. After opening Races window choose Race group from the list, Race category, race point ( distance will set automatically ), race date, release time, weather condition and wind direction. You can also add comments about the race in Comment area. Then choose the race team that is on the left side of the screen from Team name drop-down pick list. Now choose the birds participating in the race from the grid that is on the left side of the screen, by double-clicking the bird or pressing the ENTER key from keyboard.
Remember to choose birds from the list in the same order as each of them arrived from the race.

|
EXAMPLE : You put 6 birds on the race from the Topeka and your birds arrived :
11:10:12 bird AU 12 HAWKEYE 313
11:12:21 bird AU 12 HAWKEYE 347
11:16:25 bird AU 11 HAWKEYE 208
11:25:32 bird AU 12 HAWKEYE 340
11:32:45 bird AU 12 OMAHA 2043
11:50:11 bird AU 05 CIRP 1930
now you choose birds from the race team in the same order as each of them arrived from the race.

If the cell is highlighted, press ENTER key, enter new value and press ENTER key again. First you add the bird’s position in a race :

|
CAUTION : In all countries 20% pigeons participating in races win prizes so after all you mark the birds who won in Races window. If you use miles you have to mark D as diploma or W as win then in Best birds window you will see what birds won in races.
In the last grid cell Win ( or Prize if you use kilometres ) choose one value from drop-down pick list, if you use the distance in miles you choose :
D - diploma - bird must clock in the top 20%
W - win - bird must clock in the top 20%
N - no win - when the bird arrived above 20%
L - Lost - when the bird did not arrive from race
when you use kilometres :
P - prize - bird must clock in the top 20%
N - no prize - - when the bird arrived above 20%
L - Lost - when the bird did not arrive from race
after filling in all fields, Races window looks like this :
